Bin Laden’s Legacy

Post from our state Chair Matt Drew relating to recent events.

Matt Drew, LPNC Chair

On Friday, May 6th, two Muslim men were removed from an Atlantic Southeast Airlines because the pilot refused to fly with them on board. Ironically, the two men were imams flying to Charlotte for a conference on Islamophobia. Another man from New York was barred from flying entirely by American Airlines, and was forced to drive to the meeting. Also on Friday, the bank accounts of Hatem Abudayyeh, a Palestinian-American activist, were frozen by the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s office as part of an ongoing investigation into anti-war and Palestinian activists in the Midwest.

I’d like to say that these are isolated incidents, but they are not. Many of us are choosing to do what bin Laden wanted – divide ourselves with fear and cowardice, and give up our freedom and principles in the name of illusionary safety. As a Libertarian, I stand in favor of freedom and tolerance, and opposed to anyone who thinks that threats, intimidation, and violent death are an acceptable solution: Hamas no less than Israel, and Osama bin Laden no less than the United States of America. If you feel that way as well, I would encourage you to join us.
