The state party annual convention was held on April 15-17 at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Hickory.
Daniel Chang, Marc Conaghan, Brian Irving, Phil Jacobson, Stephanie Watson represented Wake County as delegates to the LPNC convention. Delegates considered bylaws revisions, elected new party officers, heard inspiring speakers and participated in a fundraising auction to benefit the LPNC.
The following slate of officers were elected for the 2011-2013 term:
Chair Matt Drew from Durham Co.
Vice Chair Bev Wilcox of Rockingham Co.,
Treasurer John Caveny of Cleveland Co.,
Recording Secretary Daniel Chang of Wake Co.,
Membership Secretary Rick Pasotto of Mecklenburg Co.
Delegates also elected at-large members Brad Bergh of Buncombe Co., David Speight of Davidson Co., J.J. Summerell of Guilford County, Tom Hohman of Union County, Tim Doran and Alex Vuchnich of Mecklenburg Co., and Phil Jacobson and Marc Conaghan of Wake Co.
Winston-Salem native R. Lee Wrights addressed the delegates on Saturday afternoon to proudly announce his plan to seek the Libertarian Party nomination for President of the United States.
“I’m returning to the place where this campaign began … ten years ago,” Wrights explained. “North Carolina is where I was born, where I grew up and where I became involved in the Libertarian Party and the libertarian movement. It’s here in North Carolina that the seed for this campaign was planted and nourished.”
